George Arliss (April 10, 1868 – February 5, 1946), classic English actor, author, playwright and filmmaker, original, vintage, 8 x 10 publicity photograph from the 1934 film, "The Iron Duke." With a career spanning 20 years, Arliss was both the first British actor and the earliest-born actor to win an Academy Award.
Identifying type on verso of photograph reads: "The Iron Duke! / Always the master...with men...with women! In the Gaumont British picture, 'The Iron Duke' soon to be released in this country, George Arliss surpasses all his previous histrionic successes in his thrilling portrayal of the Duke of Wellington. 'The Iron Duke' premieres in America at the Radio City Music Hall in New York at the end of January." Pencil notation in an unknown hand reads, "Geo. Arliss / 1935."
In fine condition, with some light rippling along the left edge.
