George Arliss (April 10, 1868 – February 5, 1946), classic English actor, author, playwright and filmmaker, original, vintage, 8 x 10 publicity photograph from the stage production of "Old English." With a career spanning 20 years, Arliss was both the first British actor and the earliest-born actor to win an Academy Award.
Identifying type on verso of photograph reads: "The one and only George Arliss, in character pose reminiscent of his famous role in "Old English," the stage success. Mr. Arliss will appear in the same role when Warner Bros. bring their dramatic Vitaphone production of 'Old English' to the talking screen..." Pencil notation in an unknown hand dates the image, "1930."
In fine condition, with the slightest abrasion to the gloss and light bends to the top corners.
