Thaddeus S.C. Lowe (August 20, 1832 - January 16, 1913), notable 19th century American aeronautics pioneer and later Chief Aeronaut of the Union Army Balloon Corps in the Civil War, original mounted vintage photographs, depicting guests at Mount Lowe, California, named in Lowe's honor. Lowe is considered the father of military aerial reconnaissance in the U.S. and was personally appointed to the position of Chief Union Aeronaut by President Abraham Lincoln.
Mount Lowe was named in honor of Thaddeus Lowe after he became the first man to summit the mountain and plant the American flag at its peak, as well as for building the Mount Lowe Railway to its foot in 1896.
Approximately 6" x 9" in size. Minor dings, otherwise good condition.
