Sixth-Plate Daguerreotype (1840 - 1855), 19th century portrait, ornate vintage case, 2.75 x 3.25. The daguerreotype photograph, developed in 1839 by Louis Daguerre, was the very process that would make history as the first publicly announced and commercially recognized photographic process. This type of image can be identified by its mirror-like surface of metallic silver which, when tilted, may virtually disappear.

Featured here is a 19th century portrait of a young man clad in a suit and tie, bordered by an octagonal gold frame. Housed in a vitnage case boasting a harp-like design on the front cover and back panel, the interior of the front cover features red satin lining. Case remains intact the hinge and bears the original closure latches.

In very good condition, with the expected wear to the case, some scattered spotting around the gold frame and image.
