Jeremiah Gurney (October 17, 1812 – April 21, 1895), New York daguerreotype photographer, original Carte-de-visite photograph. A pioneer of the daguerreotype photograph, Gurney established the first American photo gallery in 1840, charging $5 for a portrait.
Print on lower mount identifies "J. Gurney & Son / Photo. N. Y." Notations on verso in an unknown hand, along with Gurney's official imprint.
Measuring approximately 2.5 x 4, this Carte-de-visite photograph is in fine condition.
