Ruth Elizabeth "Bette" Davis (April 5, 1908 – October 6, 1989), American actress of film, television and theater, vintage glossy 8 x 10 inch photograph. Bette Davis as Sara Muller in the 1943 film "Watch on the Rhine."
"Watch on the Rhine" is a 1943 American film drama directed by Herman Shumlin, starring Bette Davis. The screenplay by Dashiell Hammett is based on the 1941 play of the same title by Lillian Hellman.
Regarded as one of the greatest actresses in Hollywood history, Davis was noted for her willingness to play unsympathetic, sardonic characters and was reputed for her performances in a range of film genres, from contemporary crime melodramas to historical and period films and occasional comedies, although her greatest successes were her roles in romantic dramas.
