Walter Leslie Runciman, 2nd Viscount Runciman of Doxford (August 26, 1900 – September 1, 1989), aviator and prominent member of a well-known Newcastle ship-owning family, original, vintage silver print photograph. As an aviator, Runciman founded his own aviation company, commanded the Durham Squadron of the Auxiliary Air Force and was awarded the Air Force Cross in 1937. He was an integral figure in the amalgamation of Imperial Airways and British Airways into the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC), of which he served as the first Director-General from 1940 to 1943.
Vaughan & Freeman photographer blindstamp appears at the bottom right corner, and their imprint is stamped on verso. Notations in ink and pencil in an unknown hand also appear on verso.
Measuring approximately 5.5 x 8, this photograph is in overall fine condition, with some light silvering at the edges and slight wear to the corners.
