John Knight Giles (February 16, 1895 – February 8, 1979), infamous career criminal and prison escapee, original "Wanted" sheet from the Oregon State Penitentiary. Issued November 20, 1934.
Giles was sentenced to the United States Penitentiary on May 11, 1935 for attempted robbery of the Denver and Rio Grande Western mail train. Previously he had been serving a life sentence in Oregon for murder before escaping. Giles had escaped from the jail in Oregon as a WANTED MAN. Giles began serving his sentence for the attempted train robbery at McNeil Island on June 17, 1935, but due to his escape record and the length of his sentence, was transferred to Alcatraz Island on August 28, 1935.

From the collection of Police Chief Michael Webb (1950-2009). Webb joined the Vinita Park, Missouri police force in 1974 and served until his death in 2009, during which time he purchased crime artifacts from relatives of criminals and law officers. Boasting more than 8,000 wanted posters, pieces of Webb’s collection have been featured in film and displayed at the National Crime and Punishment Museum in Washington.
Measuring approximately 8 x 8 inches, sheet exhibits the expected signs of wear and age.
