Katharine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 - June 29, 2003), classic American film actress, authentic handwritten note, dated March 14, 1994. Over the course of her illustrious career, Hepburn won a record four Academy Awards for the films "Morning Glory," "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "The Lion in the Winter" and "On Golden Pond."
This piece comes from a vast collection of letters spanning a 12 year correspondence between the elusive actress and an avid admirer, Alice Hicks. Within these pages, Hepburn's typically short and brief responses to fan mail take on a seemingly invested, almost poetic form, suggesting a deeper, more intimate relationship between the two women. In this unique piece, Hicks pens a jarring poem to "Miss Kath," in part: "I don't want to play in your yard, / I don't like you anymore / You'll be sorry when you see me, / Sliding down my cellar door / You can't holler down my rain barrel, / You can't climb my apple tree / No - I don't want to play in your yard, / If you can't be nice to me..."
Hepburn pens a short reply is her shaky scrawl below, in part: "What can I say / What can I do / I struggle to be satisfactory - I fail - You've been sweet to me / I'm so blessed [?]."
Accompanied by original mailing envelope.
Composed on a lined sheet measuring approximately 8.5 x 11 inches in size, this note is in fine condition.
