$95.00 - Product is currently out of stock.
Sixth-Plate Daguerreotype (1840 - 1855), 19th century portrait, ornate vintage case, 2.75 x 3.25. The daguerreotype photograph, developed in 1839 by Louis Daguerre, was the very process that would make history as the first publicly announced and commercially recognized photographic process. This type of image can be identified by its mirror-like surface of metallic silver which, when tilted, may virtually disappear.
Featured here is a 19th century portrait of a stoic man clad in a suit and large tie, bordered by a gold frame. Housed in a gorgeous vintage case boasting elaborate vine-work, the front interior cover of the case features red velvet lining. Although the case is separated at the hinge, it bears the original latch, intact.
In very good condition, with a separation at the hinges and some minor wear to the exterior.
