$75.00 - Product is currently out of stock.
Sixth-Plate Daguerreotype (1840 - 1855), 19th century portrait, embellished vintage case, 2.75 x 3.25. The daguerreotype photograph, developed in 1839 by Louis Daguerre, was the very process that would make history as the first publicly announced and commercially recognized photographic process. This type of image can be identified by its mirror-like surface of metallic silver which, when tilted, may virtually disappear.
Featured here is a 19th century portrait of a bearded man wearing a top hat, suit coat and flannel vest, framed by an oval gold frame. Vintage case features ornate embellishments and is still attached at the hinge, albeit loosely, and bears the original latch. A faded red floral lining remains beautifully intact inside the front cover.
In very good condition, with the expected wear to the case, some separation at the hinge, and scattered spotting on the gold frame.
