Quarter-Plate Daguerreotype (1840 - 1855), 19th century family portrait, vintage case, 3.25 x 4.25. The daguerreotype photograph, developed in 1839 by Louis Daguerre, was the very process that would make history as the first publicly announced and commercially recognized photographic process. This type of image can be identified by its mirror-like surface of metallic silver which, when tilted, may virtually disappear.

Featured here is a 19th century portrait of a three middle-aged women in a long-sleeved gowns, bordered by a gold frame. A deep purple velvet lining adorns the interior of the front cover. The case remains intact at the hinge and bears the original, still-functioning closure clasp. 

In fine condition, with a bit of silvering around the outer edge of the image and light wear to the exterior of the case.
