$75.00 - Product is currently out of stock.
Quarter-Plate Daguerreotype (1840 - 1855), 19th century portrait, embellished vintage case, 3.25 x 4.25. The daguerreotype photograph, developed in 1839 by Louis Daguerre, was the very process that would make history as the first publicly announced and commercially recognized photographic process. This type of image can be identified by its mirror-like surface of metallic silver which, when tilted, may virtually disappear.
Featured here a 19th century portrait of a woman in a bonnet and long-sleeved gown, framed by an oval gold frame. Vintage case features floral embellishments and although detached, still bears the original latch. A red floral lining remains beautifully intact inside the front cover.
In fine condition, with some trivial tarnishing on the gold frame.
