Vintage Daguerreotype
$95.00 - Product is currently out of stock.
Ninth-Plate Daguerreotype (1840 - 1855), 19th century portrait, vintage Union Case, 2 x 2.5. The daguerreotype photograph, developed in 1839 by Louis Daguerre, was the very process that would make history as the first publicly announced and commercially recognized photographic process. This type of image can be identified by its mirror-like surface of metallic silver which, when tilted, may virtually disappear.
Featured in one half of this vintage Union Case is a striking 19th century bust-length portrait of a distinguished gentleman, clad in a suit, tie and white top hat. The image is bordered by an embellished oval gold frame, and the interior of the front cover is lined in gorgeous blue velvet, bearing a pristine emblazoned design. The thermoplastic case remains perfectly intact at the hinges, and the original closure clasp is still functioning.
In fine condition, with some light silvering and surface marks to the image.
