Harriet Beecher Stowe (June 14, 1811 – July 1, 1896), American author and abolitionist, Carte-de-visite photograph of Stowe's home on the property of the Andover Theological Seminary. Stowe authored the 1852 classic "Uncle Tom's Cabin," the renowned story that conveyed the hardships of African American life under slavery, which became influential in the United States and United Kingdom.
From 1852 to 1864, Stowe lived in Andover, Massachusetts with her husband, Calvin E. Stowe, was a professor at the Andover Theological Seminary. This house was originally located on the property of the seminary until 1929, when Phillips Academy decided to replace the house. Imprint on bottom panel identifies the photographer, "Warren," and verso bears a pencil notation in an unidentified hand, "1866 Harriet Beecher Stowe's home."
Measuring approximately 2.5 x 4, this Carte-de-visite is in fine condition, with some light toning.
