George Armstrong Custer (December 5, 1839 - June 25, 1876), notable 19th century United States Army officer, authentic, autographed vintage envelope, addressed to his wife "Mrs. Genl. Custe [r]." Custer was a highly decorated Union officer in the American Civil War and played a decisive role in the Appomattox Campaign. Custer was more notable for his role in the Indian Wars, in particular at the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876, where he and all of his men were killed by a coalition of Native American tribes in what has come to be known as "Custer's Last Stand."
This vintage mailing envelope, measuring approximately 5 x 3 inches in size, has been addressed in Custer's hand to his wife (incorporating his signature), "Mrs. Genl Custer [r], Care of K C Barker Monroe (Struck out), Detroit Michigan."
The envelope is in fine condition with only expected light age wear and a torn right edge affecting the "r" in Custer.
