$75.00 - Product is currently out of stock.

Dudley Huppler (1917–1988), artist, authentic, autographed silver-print "Real Photo" postcard with inscription from Florence, Italy to Carl Van Vechten in New York City. Date stamped as 1951.

From the 1940s through the 1960s, Huppler moved in the brightest literary and artistic circles in New York, Chicago, Boulder, and his native Wisconsin, counting among his friends John Wilde, Sylvia Fein, Harry Partch, George Platt Lynes, Paul Cadmus, Marianne Moore, Glenway Wescott, Tobias Schneebaum, Andy Warhol, and others. Moving between the commercial and fine art worlds, he created windows for Bonwit Teller and advertising art for Parker Pen and Henri Bendel but also exhibited in galleries; was featured in Art News, Flair, and Art Digest; and won fellowships for his art and writing. His work is marked by an unusual, meticulous technique, forming sensual and whimsical images of animals, nature, and the human body from tiny gradations of tonal dots.

Carl Van Vechten, (June 17, 1880 – December 21, 1964), celebrated American writer and photographer, was the literary executor of Gertrude Stein and a key figure of the Harlem Renaissance movement. He captured iconic images of all the key members in the worlds of Art, Theater, Music, and Literature. Van Vechten viewed his photography as a hobby; he never took commissions, he never sold photographs. He would grant permission to publish them, but had strict requirements to do so. He was a prominent fixture in 20th century photography collections with his work being included in such institutions as The Library of Congress, The Museum of The City of New York and The Smithsonian Institution.

In very good condition with original postage and markings; minor wear to the corners and edges.
