Muhammad Ali

Muhammad Ali; born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. (January 17, 1942), American professional boxer, generally considered among the greatest heavyweights in the sport's history, authentic, autographed note (NS), with 33 words handwritten by Ali quoting Elijah Muhammad.

In 1967, three years after winning the heavyweight title, Ali refused to be conscripted into the U.S. military, citing his religious beliefs and opposition to American involvement in the Vietnam War. The U.S. government declined to recognize him as a conscientious objector, however, because Ali declared that he would fight in a war if directed to do so by Allah or his messenger (Elijah Muhammad). 

Signed "Thank you Joe / Muhammad Ali / 8-5-85" in blank area beneath typed request from an autograph collector. 6.25 x 5 inches (visible).

8 x 5 inch index card on which Ali has boldly penned: "As you know We have learned through experience for 400 years We can't get along in peace together T.H.E.M. [The Honorable Elijah Muhammad] theaches [sic] us the White Race are not going to accept us as their Equals."

This card is numbered "32" by Ali, is one in a series used by him on speaking tours. Ali spoke at colleges across the nation, advocating African American pride and racial justice.

Matted with a 7.5 x 9.75 (visible) photograph of Ali with Malcolm X for a finished size of 24 x 18.5 inches.

In fine condition. Accompanied by a PSA/DNA Certificated of Authenticity for the signature.
