Will Carleton

Will Carleton (1845-1912), classic poet, authentic, vintage, autographed handwritten letter (ALS), 5 x 8, dated "Brooklyn, Apr. 10/86." Carleton's ability to capture and express the beauty in every day occurrences is the distinguishing element of his work, including such pieces as "Rifts in the Cloud," "Farm Ballads," "An Ancient Spell" and "Rhymes of Our Planet."

In a brief response to Mr. H. W. Fay's request for photographs of himself, Carleton responds, in full: "In reply to yours of Mar. 22: There are no good photos of me printed at present. Sarony, of Union Sq., New York, will make some in a few days. Yours truly, Will Carleton."

Exhibiting the expected mailing folds, scattered surface wrinkling and mounting remnants on the reverse, otherwise fine condition.
