Victor-Joseph Etienne de Jouy (19 October 1764 - 4 September 1846), French Dramatist, authentic, autographed letter (ALS). This one page letter, measures approximately 7" x 8" in size and is dated June 19, 1819. 

During his early military career Jouy had to flee France during the Reign of Terror for fear of his life as a result of being accused of treasonable correspondence with the English envoy, James Harris, 1st Earl of Maimesbury. 

When the suspicion had settled, Jouy turned to literature, and produced several fine literary works which became major successes. His works consisted of opera librettos, tragedies and other miscellaneous writings. 

This letter is crisply signed by Jouy at the conclusion. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. The letter contains some scattered creases, and expected intersecting folds.There is also some writing on the reverse which has been partially trimmed along the upper edge.
