Truman Howe Bartlett (1835 – 1922), American sculptor, autographed handwritten letter (ALS), one page, dated March 5, 1898. More commonly known as "T. H. Bartlett," his most popular works include "The Wounded Drummer Boy of Shiloh" and the Horace Wells Monument in Bushnell Park, Hartford, Connecticut. He spent 22 years as an instructor in MIT's architecture department, and in his down time, ran a free art school for impoverished children.
In a letter to "Mr. H. W. Fay" of Dekalb, Illinois, Bartlett writes on MIT letterhead, in full: "Do you happen to have any photographs of Horace Greeley, sitting & full length, also of Chas Sumner? If so will you please send me copy of each & I will remit price," signed at the conclusion, "T. H. Bartlett."
Measuring approximately 5.5 x 8.5, this letter is in fine condition.
