Leon Gambetta (2 April 1838 - 31 December 1882), French statesman, authentic, autographed annotated letter (ALS). This one page letter measures approximately 3" x 4" in size and is dated April 19, 1873.
In the letter, addressed to a colleague of his, Gambetta summons him to a meeting in Paris the following Monday. The letter is affixed to a piece of card stock that is approximately the same size.
Gambetta was a lawyer and French statesman. He rose to prominence during and after the Franco-Prussian War. Earlier is his career, he became disgusted with the Assembly's unwillingness to first enter into war with Prussia, he resigned and left France for San Sebastian in Spain.
On his return, he was instrumental in voting in the French Constitutional Laws of 1875. Gambetta served as President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
This letter is crisply signed at the conclusion by Gambetta. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. There is a small tear in the upper and lower right hand corner.
