Jean-de-Dieu Soult, 1st Duke of Dalmatia

Nicolas Jean-de-Dieu Soult (29 March 1769 - 26 November 1851), 1st Duke of Dalmatia, authentic, autographed manuscript letter (LS). This two page letter is approximately 6" x 8" in size and is dated August 26, 1820. 

This letter is accompanied by an impressive engraved print of Soult. The print measures approximately 4" x 6" in size and is attached to a slightly larger piece of cardstock. The print is in good to very good condition. 

Soult was a French General and statesman who was known as the "Hand of Iron". He was named Marshal of the Empire in 1804 and was one of only six officers in French history to receive the distinction of Marshal General of France.  Soult also served three times as Prime Minister of France.

The letter from Soult is crisply signed at the conclusion. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signatures. The letter contains some scattered creases and expected intersecting folds.
