Detaille was a French academic painter and military artist who was noted for his precision and realistic detail. He is often regarded as the "semi-official artist of the French Army". Two of his more notable works are "The Defense of Champigny" (1879) and "La Reve" (1888). It was from his own military experience during the Franco-Prussian War which provided him the visions for his future works.
This letter is crisply signed at the conclusion by Detaille. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. The letter contains some scattered creases and one expected fold line.
