General John Fane, 11th Earl of Westmorland (2 February 1784 - 16 October 1859), British soldier, politician, musician and diplomat, autographed manuscript letter (LS). This two page letter measures approximately 6" x 8" in size and is dated February 5, 1836.

The letter is addressed to Rev. W.L. Bowles. in the letter, he discusses the supplying of details about the admission to the Royal Academy and Kings’ scholarship.

Fane was a British General during the Peninsular War. He also served as an Aide-de-Camp to the Duke of Wellington. Fane held an impressive political and diplomatic career. He served as Minister to Tuscany (1814-1830) and as Ambassador to the Austrian Empire (1851-1855). He was styled Lord Burghersh until 1841. 

He is also remembered for being a beloved musician. Fane was a composer and a founder of the Royal Academy of Music. 

This document is crisply signed at the conclusion by Fane as Lord Bughersh. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. There are some scattered creases and expected intersecting folds. On the reverse is a tear that has been repaired. There is also a red wax seal.
