FitzRoy James Henry Somerset, 1st Baron Raglan (30 September 1788 - 29 June 1855), British military officer, authentic, autographed annotated letter (ALS). This three page letter, measures approximately 4" x 6" in size and is dated August 8, 1813.
Somerset is known for commanding troops in Crimea and for his defeat of Russian troops at the Battle of Alma. He also served during the Hundred Days as well as several other military campaigns. He achieved the rank of Field Marshal.
Amongst his accolades, he was named a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of Bath. Somerset also took part in politics, serving as a Tory member of Parliament for Truro before becoming Master-General of the Ordnance. He also served as an Aide-de-Camp to the Duke of Wellington and lost an arm while serving at the Battle of Waterloo.
This letter is crisply signed at the conclusion by Somerset. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. The letter contains expected intersecting folds.
