David Dudley Field (February 13, 1805 – April 13, 1894), nineteenth century American lawyer, Congressman and law reformer, authentic, autographed vintage letter (ALS), 5 x 8, dated March 8, 1892. Best known for his efforts in the development of American civil procedure and code pleading, Field was responsible for the creation and enactment of the Field Code in 1850 by the state of New York.
In a neatly penned correspondence to N. E. Allen, Esq. of 22 Gramercy Park, New York on Congress letterhead, Field writes, in full: "My brother, Judge Field, has not been in New York since your niece was here - my other brother has signed the photos. When my brother, the Judge comes I will get him to give his signature & will acquaint you. Very truly yours, David Dudley Field."
Signature exhibits a touch of light brushing and a faint paperclip mark appears at the top left corner, otherwise fine condition.
