Charles-Victor Prevot, vicomte d'Arlincourt

Charles-Victor Prevot, vicomte d'Arlincout (26 September 1788 - 22 January 1856), French novelist, authentic, autographed letter (LS). This circa 1796 three page letter, measures approximately 5" x 8" in size. 

Prevot's popularity as a writer was never more prominent than in the 1820's as he was bestowed the epithet "the prince of the romantics" and rivalled the likes of Voctor Hugo. His father, along with several other farmers-general, was guillotined during the Reign of Terror on May 8, 1794. Prevot's mother pleaded for her son to Napoleon, who decided to name him a squire to Madame Mere.

By the age of 29, he married the daughter of a Senator and composed the tragedy "Charlemagne." In 1811, Napoleon appointed him as a master at the Council of State.

At the fall of Napoleon, Prevot became friendly with Louis XVIII, who later appointed him Master of Requests. He found great success with his novels "Le Solitaire", "Le Renegat", "Ipsiboe" and "L'Etrangere."

This untranslated letter is crisply signed at the conclusion by Prevot. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. There are scattered creases and expected intersecting folds.
