Charles Tristan, Marquis de Montholon (1782 - 21 August 1853), French General, authentic, autographed annotated letter (ALS). This one page letter measures approximately 4" x 7" in size and is undated. The letter is attached to a slightly larger piece of paper.
Tristan served as a French General during the Napoleonic Wars. Serving throughout, he chose to go into exile on St Helena with the ex-emperor after Napoleon's second abdication. It has been alleged that he was responsible for poisoning Napoleon, an allegation that has been accepted by several scholars.
This untranslated letter is crisply signed at the conclusion by Tristan. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. There are scattered creases and expected intersecting folds.
