William Franklin (1730 - November 1813), acknowledged illegitimate son of Benjamin Franklin and last colonial Governor of New Jersey, authentic autographed vintage three page document (DS), dated "Council Chamber - June 28, 1766." The document is titled "An Act for the Improvement of the Navigation of the South West Branch of Anescus Creek."
The document has been co-signed by Cortland Skinner (December 16, 1727 - March 15, 1799), Speaker of the New Jersey General Assembly, and Peter Kemble, president of the royal council governing the colony of New Jersey.
While Benjamin Franklin was one of the most prominent Patriots throughout the American Revolutionary War, his son William remained a steadfast Loyalist, creating irreconcilable differences between the two.
Approximately 12" x 15" in size, the three-page document has a torn portion in the center upper edge, and overall light, expected, age wear.
