Louis de Bourbon (8 September 1621 – 11 December 1686) Prince of Conde, authentic, autographed manuscript document (DS). Document is approximately 8" x 12" in size and dated March 21, 1668. It also contains the signature of Monseigneur Coquart.
Prince Louis was a French General and the most famous representative of the Conde branch of the House of Bourbon. He was well known as le Grand Conde (the Great Conde) for his military victories and prowess and later entitled the Duc d'Enghien.
Louis was born in Paris to Henry de Bourbon, Prince of Conde and Charlotte Marguerite de Montmorency. He was educated at the Jesuit school at Bourges and the Royal Academy of Paris. At the age of 20, he marreid the neice of Cardinal Richelieu, Claire-Clemence de Maille-Breze, who bore him three children.
During the Thrity Years' War, Louis commanded troops at the famous Battle of Rocroi and the Battle of Freiburg. He later participated in the capture of the cities of Phillippsburg, Mardyck and Dunkirk. It was for these achievements he became widely known to this day as one of the great generals of 17th century.
This untranslated document, crisply signed by Louis and Coquart at the conclusion is in good to very good condition, with expected intersecting folds and overall light toning not affecting the signature. There are scattered creases and small tears.
