Martin-Michel-Charles Gaudin, 1st Duke of Gaete (19 January 1756 - 5 November 1841), French statesman and Minister of Finances under Napolean Bonaparte, authentic, autographed manuscript document (DS). The document is approximately 7" x 12" in size and dated November 19, 1813.
The document is written on his official stationery. Accompanying the letter is a handsome engraved print of Gaudin. The print is approximately 4" x 7" in size and in good to very good condition. However, there is a slight tear in the print which crosses the top of Gaudin's head.
Gaudin was born in Saint-Denis and held the office of Minister of Finances under Napolean from 1799 to 1814. He founded the Banque de France and the Cour des comptes (Court of Audit).
Due to much of his success as Minister, he was rewarded in 1809 with the title of the Duke of Gaete, in the French controlled Kingdom of Naples.
This one page, untranslated document is crisply signed at the conclusion by Gaudin. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. The document contains scattered creases and expected intersecting folds.
