Jean-Nicolas Dufort, Comte de Cheverny

Jean-Nicolas Duforty, Comte de Cheverny, (3 February 1731 - 28 February 1802), French memoirist and Introducer of Ambassadors under King Louis XV, authentic, autographed manuscript document (DS). The document is approximately 9" x 13" in size and dated November 8, 1793.

Cheverny was born into a family of both parliamentary and general farmers. He lost his mother at a young age and, as such, inherited a great sum of money and land. 

He was admitted to the high court under King Louis XV at the age of 21 and became the King's official Introducer of Ambassadors. In 1764, he retired from the courts and bought the Chateau de Cheverny. 

Later, in 1789, he accepted the command of the National Guard. Having refused to be elected to the States General, Cheverny was deemed suspect and arrested in May 1794. He was imprisoned in Blois where he began writing his memoirs. At the end of the Reign of Terror, he was released from prison, moved back to Blois, where he continued working on his memoirs until his death in 1802 at the age of 71.  

This one page document is crisply signed at the conclusion by Cheverny. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. The document contains scattered creases, noticeable tears along the edges and expected intersecting folds.
