Frederick Douglass (February 1818 – February 20, 1895), prominent 19th century African-American social reformer, orator and writer, authentic, autographed vintage partially-printed document (DS), dated January 21st, 1886.
After escaping from slavery Douglass became a leader of the abolitionist movement with his brilliant oratory and powerful anti-slavery writings. Douglass stood as a living counter-example to slaveholders' arguments that slaves did not have the intellectual capacity to function as independent American citizens.
This official Deed of Trust document is signed by Douglass on the back panel as the "Recorder" for the District of Columbia. The indenture is between Thomas J. Fisher and Elizabeth McLaughlin to Amanda J. Whitney.
The document measures approximately 8.5" x 14" in size (folded). Fine condition.
