Etienne Lainez (23 May 1753 - 15 September 1822), French operatic tenor, authentic, autographed document (DS). This one page document, measures approximately 8" x 12" in size and is dated October 13, 1796. This document also contains the signatures of three other unidentified individuals.
Lainez was a leading figure at the Paris Opera for over thirty years. Over the course of his career, he created several tenor roles including Rodrigue in Sacchini's "Chimene" and Narcisse in Gluck's "Echo et Narcisse." Shortly after his retirement, he taught lyric declamation at the Paris Conservatory.
This untranslated document is crisply signed at the conclusion by Lainez as well as the three other unidentified individuals. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signatures. There are scattered creases, expected intersecting folds and an irregular shaped tear in the lower left hand corner which does not affect any of the signatures or wording.
