Arthur Twining Hadley (April 23, 1856 – March 6, 1930), economist who served as President of Yale University from 1899 to 1921, autographed vintage handwritten quotation (AQS).

Extracted from the pages of a 1902 Autograph Calendar book recovered from Orange Memorial Hospital, New Jersey, Hadley added the following quote to a page with the printed date of April 14: "'That rivers flow into the sea / Is loss and waste. The foolish say; / Nor know that back they find their way, / unseen from whence they wont to be. / 'Showers fall upon the earth, springs flow, / The rivers runneth close at hand; / Brave men are born into the land, / And whence, the foolish do not know.' [Clough] Arthur Twining Hadley."

Measuring approximately 7.75 x 5, this autographed quotation is in overall fine condition, with light toning and a rough left edge from extraction.
