Arthur Cushman McGiffert (March 4, 1861 - 1933), American theologian, authentic, autographed vintage handwritten quotation (AQS), 7.75 x 5. McGiffert wrote extensively on church history and the foundations of dogma. Amongst his most popular and most widely referenced are "History of Christianity in the Apostolic Age" (1897); "A Dialogue Between a Christian and a Jew" (1888); and "A History of Christian Thought" (1932, 1933), a tome so large that it was broken into two volumes.
Extracted from the pages of a 1902 Autograph Calendar book recovered from Orange Memorial Hospital, New Jersey, McGiffert added the following quote to a page with the printed date of February 13: "Not by teaching and by preaching / but by the single grace of living / the world may be enriched. Arthur Cushman McGiffert."
In fine condition, with overall light toning and a rough left edge from extraction.
