Katharine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 - June 29, 2003), classic American film actress, authentic, autographed vintage typed letter (TLS), dated February 5, 1992. Includes vintage typed letter from Hepburn's assistant, Sharon Powers. Over the course of her illustrious career, Hepburn won a record four Academy Awards for the films "Morning Glory," "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "The Lion in the Winter" and "On Golden Pond."
This piece comes from a vast collection of letters spanning a 12 year correspondence between the elusive actress and an avid admirer, Alice Hicks. Within these pages, Hepburn's typically short and brief responses to fan mail take on a seemingly invested, almost poetic form, suggesting a deeper, more intimate relationship between the two women. Throughout the years, Hicks wrote lengthy accounts detailing her declining health. More often than not, these accounts prompted Hepburn's requests to slow down with the gifts and letters: "...you make me feel that you're killing yourself on my behalf - You take care -" The actress closes the communication by informing Hicks that she will be "going away in three weeks - for three months - so you must not have me on your mind -"
Typed on personal stationary with red printed lettering, the letter measures approximately 5.5 x 8.5 inches in size, and has been signed in black ink, "K. Hep." Letter bears a central horizontal mailing fold. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
Also accompanied by a typed and signed letter on the same stationary from Hepburn's assistant, Sharon Powers, clearly indicating that Hicks paid no mind to Hepburn's request: "Thank you for sending the receipts - I will hold them for Miss Hepburn's return - She is out of town for a few weeks - as she wrote you -"
