Katharine Hepburn

Katharine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 - June 29, 2003), classic American film actress, authentic, autographed vintage typed letter (TLS), dated February 13, 1991. Also includes a facsimile copy of Hicks' original correspondence. Over the course of her illustrious career, Hepburn won a record four Academy Awards for the films "Morning Glory," "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "The Lion in the Winter" and "On Golden Pond."

This piece comes from a vast collection of letters spanning a 12 year correspondence between the elusive actress and an avid admirer, Alice Hicks. Within these pages, Hepburn's typically short and brief responses to fan mail take on a seemingly invested, almost poetic form, suggesting a deeper, more intimate relationship between the two women. In this Valentine's response, Hepburn begins by thanking Hicks for sending the lavish bounty of "walnuts, cheddar snacks, the sponge, the ashtray, the tapes, the batteries, the player...the teddy bear," a gift she finds "adorable." She then goes on to thank her for "your crazy and confused letter - I guess you'll never change." In closing, Hepburn informs Hicks that she is "returning the card with the $5 bills - I'm a bit confused by them - Are they for you or for me?"

Typed on personal stationary with red printed lettering, the letter measures approximately 5.5 x 8.5 inches in size, and has been signed in black ink, "K. Hep." Letter bears a central horizontal mailing fold. 

Also accompanied by a copy of Hicks' letter, dated February 18, 1991, in which the fan makes reference to the gifts, laments over Hepburn's "crazy and confused" comments, and also explains the inclusion of the card and the money.
