Katharine Hepburn

Katharine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 - June 29, 2003), classic American film actress, authentic, autographed vintage typed letter (TLS), two pages, dated July 17, 1990. Also includes facsimile copied page from Hicks' original correspondence. Over the course of her illustrious career, Hepburn won a record four Academy Awards for the films "Morning Glory," "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "The Lion in the Winter" and "On Golden Pond."

This piece comes from a vast collection of letters spanning a 12 year correspondence between the elusive actress and an avid admirer, Alice Hicks. Within these pages, Hepburn's typically short and brief responses to fan mail take on a seemingly invested, almost poetic form, suggesting a deeper, more intimate relationship between the two women. As the correspondence goes on, Hicks' fanatical nature becomes more rampant, a trend that the actress addresses in this letter: "You sound as if you have high blood pressure -- You musn't let yourself go that way -- It's cuckoo...I keep dropping you lines and you keep sending notes of despair -- I feel fine -- I always feel fine -- And if I didn't I wouldn't tell you anyway --"

Typed on personal stationary with red printed lettering, the letter measures approximately 5.5 x 8.5 inches in size, and has been signed in black ink, "K. Hep." Letter bears three horizontal mailing folds and a faint stain along the left side of each page. Accompanied by original handwritten mailing envelope.

Also accompanied by a copied page from Hicks' original letter, referencing Hepburn's "high blood pressure" and "notes of despair" comments.
