Samuel L. Clemens

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (November 30, 1835 - April 21, 1910), better known by his pen name Mark Twain, legendary American author of the nineteenth century, authentic, autographed personal check. Mark Twain is perhaps the best known and most highly regarded American novelist in history. He's been called "the father of American literature" based on the overwhelming and timeless success of the classic "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and its sequel, "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn."

Measuring approximately 8.25 x 2.75 and dated December 11, 1874, Clemens made this First National Bank of Hartford check payable to "Mrs. Annie S. Baldwin" in the amount of $10. The check has been endorsed "Samuel L. Clemens." 

Some slight toning to the edges, vertical folds, a reparative strip along verso of top edge and a cancellation stamp slightly affecting the signature, otherwise fine condition.
