Nelson Mandela

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (July 18, 1918 – December 5, 2013), South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999, authentic, autographed book.

He was South Africa's first black chief executive, and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid through tackling institutionalized racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation. Politically an African nationalist and democratic socialist, he served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1991 to 1997. Internationally, Mandela was Secretary General of the Non-Aligned Movement from 1998 to 1999.

Signed “N Mandela” on the page preceding the half-title. "Long Walk to Freedom: The Autobiography of Nelson Mandela" (Norwalk, Connecticut: Easton Press, 2000), 558 p., 6.5  x 9.25 inches. Collector’s Edition bound in genuine leather. Printed on archival paper with gilt edges. The end sheets are moire fabric with a silk ribbon page marker. Five compartments on spine, four raised bands, tooled in gilt. Binding extremely tight.

Accompanied by an 8 x 5 inch printed Easton Press Certificate of Authenticity, signed and dated in facsimile “N Mandela 26.9.2000,” stating “I, Nelson Mandela, hereby attest that it is my own original hand-signed signature that appears in each copy of the Easton Press leather-bound Collector’s Edition of Long Walk to Freedom.”
