Korean War, Seoul, Korea, vintage silver print glossy 7 x 9 inch photograph depicting a young Korean child "wrapped in a memento of President-Elect Eisenhower's recent visit, this youngster seeks shelter from the cold in the doorway of a bombed out Seoul building. He's also wearing an oversized pair of GI combat boots as an added measure of protection. 12/11/52."
The Korean War (June 25, 1950 – July 27, 1953), started when North Korea invaded South Korea. The United Nations, with United States as the principal force, came to aid of South Korea. China, along with assistance from Soviet Union, came to aid of North Korea. The war arose from the division of Korea at the end of World War II and from the global tensions of the Cold War that developed immediately afterwards.
