Paul-Therese-David d'Astros (1772 - 29 September 1851), Roman Catholic French Cardinal, authentic, autographed annotated letter (ALS). This five page letter is dated May 25, 1840 and measures approximately 7" x 9" in size. The letter is written on his official stationery as Archbishop.
The letter concerns copies of letters of Bishop de Quelen requested for eventual publication. It also furnishes highlights of the Bishop's career. The letter was written while he was the Archbishop of Toulouse.
d'Astros was a French Roman Catholic Cardinal who was well remembered for being imprisoned by Napoleon for excommunicating the Emperor. Later, in 1850, he was created Cardinal by Pope Pius IX.
This letter is crisply signed by d'Astros. It is in good to very good condition, with overall light toning not affecting the signature. The letter contains some scattered creases and expected intersecting folds.
