James Garfield (November 19, 1831 – September 19, 1881), 20th President of the United States, authentic, unsigned original copy of the book "Diplomatic Correspondence 2nd Sess. 40th Cong.", personally owned by President Garfield.
The book is from The First Presidential memorial library which was established by First Lady Lucretia Garfield at the Garfield family Lawnfield Estate in Mentor, Ohio. Mrs. Garfield created the library four years after President Garfield's assassination. Several years ago, several dozen of Garfield's books were de-accessioned, with this vintage book being one of them. The inside cover of the book bears a 1.5 x 2.75 inch label imprinted "Inter Folia Fructus /Library of James A. Garfield / No.__".
The book measures approximately 6.25 x 9 x 2.25 inches in size and has significant overall age wear, including a nearly completely torn spine, slight separation to the front cover and scattered overall dings.
