Max Baer (February 11, 1909 – November 21, 1959), American boxer of the 1930s (one-time Heavyweight Champion of the World) as well as a referee, and had an occasional role on film or television, original, glossy, 7 x 9 inch photograph. Credited to Acme Newspictures, Inc. Dated 6/1/35.
Baer was the brother of heavyweight boxing contender Buddy Baer and father of actor Max Baer, Jr. (best known as Jethro Bodine on 'The Beverly Hillbillies'). Baer is rated #22 on Ring Magazine's list of 100 greatest punchers of all time.
The photograph depicts Baer getting a round of applause from the crowd upon leaving his training camp at Asbury Park, NJ. He was training in preparation to defend his championship title against James J. Braddock (which he lost) on June 12, 1935.
Verso bears original handwritten date and photography credit stamping. In very good condition with minor wear to surface, edges and corners.
