Harriet Beecher Stowe (June 14, 1811 – July 1, 1896), American author and abolitionist, authentic, autographed vintage quotation (AQS) from a passage contained in her 1852 classic 'Uncle Tom's Cabin.'

In full: "Lives of great men all remind /us / We can make our lives sublime, / And, departing, leave behind us / Footprints on the sands of time."

'Uncle Tom's Cabin,' depicting African American life, became influential in the United States and United Kingdom. The book energized anti-slavery forces in the American North, while provoking widespread anger in the South.
