Charles Robert Darwin (February 12, 1809 – April 19, 1882), English naturalist and geologist, best known for his contributions to evolutionary theory, authentic autograph with handwritten note (ANS) in custom showpiece framed display measuring approximately 16 x 22 inches.
Darwin pens in full: "Perhaps you collect photographs so I enclosed one, as I do not remember having sent one before."
Darwin established that all species of life have descended over time from common ancestors, and in a joint publication with Alfred Russel Wallace introduced his scientific theory that this branching pattern of evolution resulted from a process that he called natural selection, in which the struggle for existence has a similar effect to the artificial selection involved inselective breeding.
The signed note, measuring 3 x 4.5 inches, is in very good condition with a light vertical fold to its center. It is housed in a custom double matte, with a contemporary print of a painting of Darwin. Complete in an archival (UV protective museum grade plexiglass) metallic gold gilt wooden frame for a finished size of 16 x 22 inches.
