Lyman G. Bloomingdale

Rare Typed Letter Signed “Lyman G. Bloomingdale,” 1p, 7.25” x 9.5”. New York, January 6, 1897. To Edmund Hendricks, City. On his personal watermarked laid paper stationery, “Lyman G. Bloomingdale, / Third Avenue 59th & 60th Sts.” (Bloomingdale’s is still there!). Light soiling and folds. Fine condition.

In full, “I am in receipt of your favor of January 5th inquiring as to Mr. J. M. Tobias, with regard to his application to join Lafayette Post, and in answer beg to say, that I have known Mr. Tobias for a number of years, and am glad to say that I can speak only well of him. I believe that he will be an acceptable member of the Post, and therefore recommend him.”

Edmund Hendricks (1834-1909), a veteran of the 7th Regiment, New York Volunteers, in the Civil War, was a member of Hendricks Brothers, a family copper business. Lafayette Post, No. 40, Grand Army of the Republic, was organized in New York City in 1880. Hendricks was a member of the Membership Committee of Lafayette Post.
