Katharine Hepburn (May 12, 1907 - June 29, 2003), classic American film actress, authentic, autographed vintage typed letter (TLS), two pages, dated August 1, 1989. Over the course of her illustrious career, Hepburn won a record four Academy Awards for the films "Morning Glory," "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner," "The Lion in the Winter" and "On Golden Pond."
This piece comes from a vast collection of letters spanning a 12 year correspondence between the elusive actress and an avid admirer, Alice Hicks. Within these pages, Hepburn's typically short and brief responses to fan mail take on a seemingly invested, almost poetic form, suggesting a deeper, more intimate relationship between the two women. In this letter, Hepburn thanks Hicks for the "charming" gifts. However, there is one present she confesses to have no taste for: "Cary Grant I'm not so interested in - but lots of people in the house are looking forward to reading it." She then goes on to apologize to Hicks for once again, hurting her feelings: "I'm sorry that I upset you all the time -- I certainly don't mean to...You should never have your feelings hurt by me because I just accept you as you are -- You -- Alice Hicks -- So please don't weep --"
Typed on personal stationary with red printed lettering, the 2 page letter measures approximately 5.5 x 8.5 inches in size, and is signed at the conclusion in black ink, "K. Hep." Each page bears a central horizontal mailing fold. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
